10 Question Framework to Vet Language Schools Abroad

10 Question Framework to Vet Language Schools – Particularly in Latin America

There are literally thousands of language schools in Latin America – how will you know if the school you’re looking at will be a good choice for you?

If you’re a DIY (do it yourself) traveler who wants to take formal language classes abroad, you will need to select a language school to work with. On the surface, most language schools in Latin America look the same. They will offer:

  • some sort of transportation options from the airport to get you started
  • 4 or 5hrs of language classes per day (might be small group, might be individual classes)
  • some afternoon or evening activities (like cooking or dance classes)
  • some day and weekend tour options for you

You may see Spanish classes as an add on to your trip, or language might be your primary reason for traveling. Either way, you want to choose well. As you are researching schools abroad, it’s a good idea to know what you can expect out of a high-quality language school.

This 10 question framework will help you determine if the language school you’re considering meets industry standards and if it’s a good fit for your goals.

If you decide that the DIY approach isn’t for you, take a look at the Spanish immersion programs (much more than language school) we run in Central America.
