Student Fundraising and Changed Lives on Tuesday Mornings

Tuesday Morning Program at House of Hope

What is the Tuesday Morning Program and what does it have to do with student fundraising?

The Immersion Fund began with two primary goals of raising funds for scholarships for Spanish immersion participants and supporting the local communities we visit in Central America. To do this we’ve started a fundraising with a purpose program through our Cases of Hope.

A Case of Hope is a small case of jewelry that is hand made by women who are leaving prostitution in Managua, Nicaragua. All the jewelry sold through the Immersion Fund’s student fundraising programs is bought from the Tuesday Morning Program at House of Hope.

So what exactly happens on a typical Tuesday in the Tuesday Morning Program?

Colleen has visited the House of Hope a number of times. Watch as she explains a bit more about what happens on Tuesday Mornings and how this amazing program is changing the lives of hundreds of women in Nicaragua.

On Tuesday Mornings in Managua, Nicaragua over 300 women gather to make jewelry. They begin the morning by gathering together as a community. Afterwards the women break up into groups and work to make items such as jewelry, potato bags, eye glasses cases, and greeting cards. These women are taught marketable skills that will one day allow them to leave the life of slavery and prostitution. The money earned from product sales goes directly to pay the women who so diligently craft each product by hand.

For women at the House of Hope in Managua, Nicaragua Tuesday mornings offer an opportunity for a new life.

We have partnered with the House of Hope because we are passionate about supporting organizations that offer people of Central America dignified and sustainable jobs. And the Tuesday Morning program goes beyond teaching women a new skill, it is a place where they experience welcoming community and find hope.

Small case of hope

To support these women and the Tuesday Morning Program and to raise funds for student travel scholarships for our immersion participants, we have come up with a unique student fundraising program. The Immersion Fund buys jewelry from the Tuesday Morning Program and then sells them in “Cases of Hope.”  We call them Cases of Hope because packed in each case is hope for three communities:

  1. The women in the Tuesday Morning Program who are working to leave the life of slavery and prostitution
  2. Students and professionals who otherwise couldn’t afford to go on a life-changing Spanish immersion trip
  3. The home communities of the immersion participants who will come back being able to better communicate with and understand the underserved Spanish-speaking population in their home town.

Join us in spreading hope by making a purchase with a purpose- a Case of Hope. When you order a Case of Hope, not only are you supporting the Tuesday Morning Program, but a portion of the proceeds goes towards scholarships for students who otherwise couldn’t afford to go on Spanish immersion trips. These students are learning Spanish today so that they can serve the underserved Spanish-speaking populations in their home communities tomorrow.
